Macter’s CELP CME Series at LNH concludes
KARACHI– National Continuing Medical Education (CME) Series at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) has concluded after completion of its 12th session here on Tuesday. The series, spanning over a year with more than 600 doctors registered for the program, was one of the biggest CME activities of the country for the medical community. It was conducted under the aegis of Clinical Excellence and Leadership Program (CELP) of Macter International (Pvt) Ltd. in collaboration with Liaquat National Hospital (LNH). The series, which was well-participated by the doctors, featured twelve monthly sessions covering sixteen specialties and allied topics.
The concluding academic session, featured the topic of “Understanding of Pathological Investigations”. Head of the Department of Histopathology & Cytology, LNH, Dr Naveen Faridi, in her presentation on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) stated that it is a first line tool for the evaluation of all palpable lumps. FNAC is a quick, reliable, cost-effective, out-patient procedure with no serious complications, she informed.
Dr Israr Nasir, Head of the Department of Molecular Pathology, LNH, stated that the tools of molecular biology have proven readily adaptable for use in the clinical diagnostic laboratory and promise to be extremely useful in diagnosis, therapy, prognosis, epidemiological investigations and infection control. The real beauty or attraction of Molecular Diagnostics, he explained, is behind its reproducibility, sensitivity, specificity, minimum hands on time, and effectiveness on a broad range of sample types.
Dr Jawaid Jabbar, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Pathology, elaborated upon the interpretation of thyroid profile and discussed case scenarios. Dr Muhammad Irfan, delivered an absorbing presentation on “Interpretation of Complete Blood Count (CBC)”. Dr Fatima Noman, consultant microbiologist, made a presentation on “When to order Culture & Sensitivity Test?”, while Dr Ali Nadeem spoke on the topic of “Infection Control in General Practice”.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Zakiuddin Ahmed, Medical Director of Macter, informed that CELP was an initiative of Macter, aimed at academic and professional excellence of the country’s medical community to serve the patients and society in a better and meaningful way. After having such an encouraging experience, Dr Zaki stated, Macter commits to organize such events at the national level as well.
Dr Salman Faridi, Consultant Surgeon, LNH, speaking at the occasion, stated that such activities are important as they provide a platform for dialogue between the family physicians and the doctors working in the tertiary-care institutes.
Asif Misbah, Director & HOC of Macter, stated that such academic activities are important to provide updates to the practicing doctors and hone their skills which would eventually benefit the patients. He presented mementos and certificates to the participants. Head of Marketing, Qasim Shaikh, in his closing remarks, stated that CME Series at LNH was a very encouraging experience as it was enthusiastically participated by the doctors. He thanked LNH administration, distinguished speakers of the series, and the participants for their cooperation.
