What it does? |
Tavist (Atorvastatin)
is a member of the drug class known
as statins.
It is used for lowering cholesterol
and thereby reducing cardiovascular
disease.
Its an inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
enzyme.

Tavist (Atorvastatin) is a selective,
competitive inhibitor of (HMG-CoA)
reductase.
Primary site of action of HMG-CoA
reductase inhibition is in liver.

Information |
The liver is the primary site
of action and the principal site
of cholesterol synthesis and LDL
clearance.

Tavist is rapidly absorbed after
oral
administration.
- It reaches its maximum plasma
concentrations within 1 to 2 hours.
- Its 98% bound to Plasma proteins
- Tavist is metabolized by Cytochrome
P450 enzyme in liver.
- Tavist is excreted in bile following
hepatic metabolism.
Indications: Tavist
(Atorvastatin) is indicated as
an adjunct to diet for the treatment
of
dyslipidaemia, specifically
hypercholesterolaemia.
In Hypercholesterolemia:
Tavist is indicated as an adjunct
to diet
to reduce elevated total-cholesterol.
- LDL-Cholesterol,
- Triglyceride levels
- Increase HDL-Cholesterol
In Adult patients
With Coronary heart disease:
Tavist is indicated to
- Reduce the risk of myocardial infarction.
- Reduce the risk of stroke

Reduce
the risk for revascularization procedures and angina
Contraindications:
- Active liver disease
- Hypersensitivity to any component of this medication.
- Pregnancy and Lactation.
