and Children: Initially 400mg
daily in divided doses increasing
gradually in divided doses.

Epilepsy: Adt: Initially
100-200mg once or twice daily
increasing slowly to optimum
dosage usually 800mg-1.2gm
daily in divided doses. Max
1.6gm daily. Children: Up
to 1 yr, 100-200mg; 1-5 yrs,
200-400mg; 5-10 yrs, 400-600mg;
10-15 yrs, 600mg-1gm. all
daily in divided doses. Trigeminal
neuralgia: Adt: Initially
100mg once or twice daily
increasing gradully
to control,
usually 600-800mg daily in
divided doses; max. 1.6gm
daily.
Children: Not applicable
Precautions: Pregnancy. Severe CVS disease.
Hepatic or renal disorders. Elderly.
Perform liver funcation tests and
check blood count regularly
AdverseEffects: Gastric, Steroids, phenytoin, lithium
mouth, drowsiness and dizziness.
Oedema and rarely hyponatraemia.
Blood dyscrasis, rashes, toxic
epidermal necrolysis, hair loss.
Acute renal failure lymph-node
enlargement, cardiac conduction
disturbances, hepatitis, and cholestatic
jaundice
Indication: Prophylaxis of manic depression
psychosis unresponsive to lithium.
epilepsy: Generalised tonic clonic
in divided pertial seizures. Trigmeinal
neuralgia
ContraIndication: A-V conduction abnormalities unless
paced. Lactation
