at PIMS

Communication skills training important for better healthcare delivery:

ISLAMABAD: “Communication skills trainings are important for doctors to enhance the effectiveness of interactions with their patients, which in turn results in better healthcare delivery”. This was observed by Dr Majeed Rajput, Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), while he was addressing a communication skills workshop held recently by Department of Pediatrics, PIMS, in collaboration with Clinical Excellence and Leadership Program (CELP) of Macter.

Prof Mumtaz, Head of the Department of Pediatrics at PIMS, appreciated Macter’s effort to equip the doctors with the skills required to discharge their duties in a better and meaningful way.

Dr S A Rab, who is also a visiting faculty member of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), was the facilitator of the workshop. The workshop encompassed various areas including ‘effective medical communication’, ‘techniques of medical presentation’, ‘skills for patient counseling’, ‘how to break bad news to the patients?’, ‘bio–psycho– social remodeling’ and ‘handling difficult situations with the patients’.

The workshop was well-attended by the doctors who took keen interest in the interactive role-playing sessions. Later, Prof Mumtaz distributed certificates to the participants who are expected to spread out throughout the region at completion of training at PIMS.
