CELP Communication Skills Workshop

KARACHI – Communication skills constitute an important domain of physicians’ repertoire, said Dr Rufina Soomro, Head of the Department of Surgery at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH). She was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day Communication Skills Workshop (CSW) held on 6th and 7th of February. The event was held under the auspices of Prof Rufina Soomro, in collaboration with Clinical Excellence and Leadership Program (CELP) of Macter.
Prof Rufina Soomro, speaking at the occasion, stated that communication plays a vital role in patient-doctor relation. She highlighted the importance of communication skills in the areas of patient counseling, medical and scientific presentations, breaking bad news and patient’s bio-psycho-social remodeling. She motivated the audience for capitalizing this opportunity to hone their communication skills for improvement in their day to day interactions with the patients.

Dr Shabbir Hussain, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, addressing the workshop, urged upon the audience to take most out of the workshop and after diligently learning the concepts, apply them for better management of the patients. He expressed his wish for continuation of such activities in the future, as he deemed the workshop worthwhile to enhance the effectiveness of doctors.
The workshop was well participated by the doctors; around 40 doctors including consultants, seniors and post-graduate students of different wards including orthopedic surgery, urology, general surgery, pediatric surgery and gastroenterology were present on both days of the workshop. Dr Mansur-ul-Haq – Consultant Gastroenterologist; also honored the event with his presence.

Prof Rufina Soomro, in her concluding remarks, thanked Macter and expressed her wish for continuous and stronger partnership between LNH and Macter in Continuing Medical Education programs. The program concluded with certificate distribution by Dr Rufina Soomro and Dr S. A. Rab.
