Patients are the ultimate beneficiaries of CME programs: Prof Anwaar A Khan

LAHORE: Primary objective of all Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs at Shaikh Zayed is to reduce morbidity, mortality, hospitalization time, cost of treatment, and to increase patients’ satisfaction, and improve quality of work life of healthcare professionals, said Prof. Anwaar A. Khan, Dean, Shaikh Zayed Hospital. He was addressing a two-day communication skills workshop held recently at Shaikh Zayed Hospital (SZH). The event was conducted under the auspices of Prof Anwaar A. Khan, and Dr Arshad Kamal Butt in collaboration with Clinical Excellence and Leadership Program (CELP) of Macter.

Prof Anwaar A Khan emphasizing the importance of communication skills in clinical practice urged upon the healthcare professionals to improve their skills and apply the concepts learnt in the workshop in their day to day practice.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Arshad Kamal Butt expressed his wish to organize more of such activities including workshop for hospital management skills. He was of the view that effectiveness of doctor-patient interactions may be enhanced by improving the communication skills of doctors.

Dr S A Rab, who is also a visiting faculty member of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), was the facilitator of the workshop. The workshop encompassed various areas including ‘effective medical communication’, ‘techniques of medical presentation’, ‘skills for patient counseling’, ‘how to break bad news to the patients?’, ‘bio–psycho– social remodeling’ and ‘handling difficult situations with the patients’.

Later, Prof Anwaar A Khan distributed mementos and certificates to the participants.
